My wife and I have both been facing a multitude of medical problems over the last couple of years. We are in danger of being sued by the collection agency for the hospital and we are now receiving threats from other collection agencies for past due credit cards and other expenses.
My wife recently finished school and earned her Associate's Degree as an Office Administrative Assistant but has been unable to locate a decent job. She currently works part time as a server for Waffle House and is lucky to break a couple hundred a week on tips and her wages.
Her mother lives in Virginia and we have been unable to visit her in several years because the vacation money has not been there. Our daughter is now six and her grandmother has been unable to see her except in pictures since she was three. As her health is not very good, we keep hoping we will be able to make at least one more trip to see her before too much time passes.
My check just isn't covering everything anymore since I've lost a considerable amount of overtime in the last year. Department cutbacks are preventing me to work any extra time and the overtime was the only thing keeping us afloat. I am also back in school part time trying to earn my Bachelor's degree in Project Management but it is slow going since I am only able to take one or two classes a session due to work and family responsibilities.
All told, I figure we need about $30-$40K to get out from under everything that is nickle and diming us to death. My most immediate concern are the medical bills which are around $3,000 right now.
